Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking an Ambulatory Medication Access Coordinator (AMAC) in the Specialty Pharmacy to optimize reimbursement for high-cost medications and support clinic workflows. The AMAC will handle inbound and outbound calls, complete third-party prior authorizations, and help patients enroll in assistance programs.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor’s degree required.
• Current or eligible for Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensure.
• 3–5 years of pharmacy technician experience in a retail pharmacy (exceptional aptitude may substitute).
• Knowledge of and ability to use computers including word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Improve patient service experience and maximize pharmacy revenue through prior authorization services for high-cost medications.
• Conduct insurance, benefits and financial screening; complete prior authorizations and track status with insurers.
• Facilitate enrollment in patient assistance programs and coordinate with social services and case management.
• Enter patient information on tracking forms and in computer systems.
• Support clinic workflow by preventing therapy interruptions due to insurance issues in collaboration with pharmacists and staff.
• Provide exemplary customer service to outpatients across UCMC.
