Job summary

University Hospital in Newark, NJ, is seeking an Ambulatory Care Technician Certified (Certified Medical Assistant) to support patients from registration to discharge and follow-up. You will organize patient flow, collect data, and assist with injections under physician direction.

Requirements include current CMA certification, BLS, NJ injection eligibility, and 1+ year in a medical office. Strong computer skills and bilingual ability are a plus in this team-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Current certification from the certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Certification Medical association (NCMA) or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• BLS (CPR) from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
• Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous techniques.
• Must complete and pass annual review of medication administration, including classroom curriculum, hands on participation and successful passing (80 or higher) of post-test.
• At least one (1) year of related experience in a medical office setting preferred. Must be computer proficient. Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to maintain a timely and organized flow of patients and visitors throughout their experience in Ambulatory Care Services and with University Hospital.
• Obtain clinical data and performs procedures as requested/directed by the provider.
• Maintain effective working relationship with coworkers; demonstrates teamwork.
• Verifies patient insurance benefits and precertification for services to be provided.
• Assists with billing procedures and forms as directed.
• Maintains safe and clean environment; and prepares clinical space and supplies.
