Job summary

St. David's Medical Center in Austin seeks an Ambassador to serve meals to patients, instruct on the meal ordering system, and assist with placing orders when needed. You will interact with Call Center operators, Food Service Supervisors, and Nursing staff to ensure timely, accurate meal service.

The role emphasizes maintaining correct temperatures, documenting meals, and supporting safety and quality standards while coordinating with multiple departments to deliver compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years working in Healthcare Food Service Preferred.
  • High School Graduate/Equivalent or minimum of 3 years food service experience in lieu of diploma/GED.
  • Associates degree Preferred.
  • Food Handlers Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and retrieves patient food trays on time and at the proper temperatures.
  • Serves meals to patients in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Instructs patients on meal ordering system and assists with placing orders.
  • Assesses patient's ability to use the meal order system and coordinates with nursing staff.
  • Maintains accurate records of meal delivery and patient intake when needed.
  • Acts as liaison between the Food & Nutrition Department, the patient and nursing unit.

Job Summary And Qualifications

To serve meals to patients in a professional, efficient manner; instructs patients on meal ordering system; assists patients in placing meal orders, if necessary; assesses the patient’s capabilities to utilize the meal order system. Interact with the Call Center operators, Food Service Supervisors, and Nursing staff on a regular basis to assure patient meals are timely and accurate.

General Responsibilities
  • Delivers and retrieves patient food trays on time and at the proper temperatures.
    • Serves meals to patients in a professional and efficient manner
    • Instructs patients on meal ordering system following an established script
    • Assists patients and/or family members in placing meal orders, if necessary
    • Assesses patient’s ability to utilize the meal order system and follow up with appropriate staff member if unable to participate
    • Processes diet requisitions retrieved from nursing stations
    • Delivers between meal nourishments directly to patients
    • Mediates patient concerns regarding meal service
    • Inventories, orders and replenishes bulk supplies on nursing units
    • Retrieves completed meals from patient’s rooms in a timely manner
    • Communicates with members of other departments effectively and concisely
    • Serves as a quality assurance control point for every aspect of the room service program
    • Required to maintain accurate records of meal deliver and if necessary, patient intake
    • Acts as liaison between Food & Nutrition Department, the patient and nursing unit
  • Adheres to departmental Quality Assurance procedures and standards.
    • Maintains all foods at correct temperatures for serving and records equipment temperatures daily with written or verbal follow up action as needed.
    • Performs daily and weekly cleaning assignments according to schedule.
    • Follows the standard infection control practices for hand washing, personal hygiene, grooming, uniforms, and food handling.
    • Attends 90% of all departmental meetings and all required in-services and training.
  • Practices safety techniques.
    • Adheres to standard safety procedures in all aspects of the job.
    • Learns correct equipment operating procedures and reports malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
    • Responsible for careful and safe handling of all equipment, knives, pans, etc.
  • Performs miscellaneous job duties as assigned.
    • Ensures assigned duties are enthusiastically completed as designated.
    • Ensures completion of duties provides results at the level requested.
