Job summary

MI Metals, Inc. is seeking a Saw Operator to support aluminum extrusion production in a fast-paced plant environment in Smyrna, TN. You will visually inspect saws, set cut lengths, load extrusions, and perform quality checks to ensure accurate, on-spec parts.

The role requires reading a tape measure to 1/32", basic mechanical skills, and adherence to safety and quality procedures. Seasonal heat, physical endurance, and regular English communication are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Can read tape measure down to 1/32".
• High level of mechanical aptitude.
• A demonstrated understanding of tape measures.
• How to use protractors and calipers a plus.
• Ability to monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure equipment is working correctly.
• Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
• Ability to walk and stand for the entirety of shift.
• Must be able to work in seasonal heat.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Visually check the saw and guards to ensure safe operation.
• Adjust saw gauge to required cut length as specified by customer.
• Load extrusions onto saw deck.
• Perform quality checks according to the documented procedure and checks tolerances.
• Check the squareness of cuts.
• Check lubrication levels and perform light preventive maintenance.
• Clear machine jams and make machine adjustments.
• Possess a working knowledge of methods and techniques of saw operation.
• Maintain a clean and orderly workplace.
• Operate Saws to meet daily output goals and maintain efficiency.
• Monitor equipment to ensure maximum uptime.
• Manufacture quality parts to meet production schedule quantities and dates and audits parts throughout the manufacturing process to meet quality standards.
• Develop an understanding of and continuously improve the performance of the aluminum cutting process.
• Work cooperatively with other operators and supervisors to achieve maximum production capabilities.
• Observe safety rules and practices and report any unsafe acts or conditions to the Supervisor.
• Ensures all quality documents are completed and turned in on time.
• Maintain clean, safe, well-organized workstation and surrounding area.
• Consistently adhere to and support company policies and procedures, including safety, environmental, and quality standards.
