Job summary

Von Maur in Normal, IL seeks an Alterations Associate to provide expert garment alterations and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced department store environment.

You will measure, fit, mark, and pin garments, perform sewing and finishing tasks, repair damaged items, and maintain a clean, welcoming workspace while helping customers select the right alteration solutions. The role offers solid benefits and opportunities for growth.

Job description

As an Alterations Associate, your unique skills contribute to our reputation as America’s Leading Department Store. In addition to general alterations, you will alter diverse styles of women’s garments varying from formal dresses with beading to tailored clothing.

What You’ll Do

• Own the customer experience – greet people sincerely, be friendly and thank every customer
• Measure, fit, mark, and pin garments according to customer specifications
• Disassemble, sew and/or reassemble garments according to measurements taken during fitting – use iron and steamer to prepare garments for customers
• Repair damaged or defective merchandise
• Garment work may range from basic to moderately difficult sewing/alteration procedures
• Maintain a clean department and work area

The expected base wage for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr with overtime eligibility. Successful candidates’ wages will be determined based on their individual qualifications for the position.
