Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory seeks a Materials and Logistics Specialist to support the ALS-U project. You will handle receiving, inspecting, and tracking materials, coordinate with vendors and freight carriers, and ensure accurate inventory and delivery across Berkeley Lab sites.

The role emphasizes forklift operation, safe handling of high-value equipment, and collaboration with engineers, procurement, and property management to optimize warehouse and logistics processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 1+ year of related experience; or 3+ years in warehouse/logistics roles.
• 3+ years operating pallet jacks and high-capacity forklifts in warehouse environments.
• 3+ years inventory control including receiving, labeling, documenting, storing, and tracking items.
• Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, construction, or research operational settings.
• 2+ years picking, packing, shipping, and receiving materials or equipment.
• Experience safely packing/shipping delicate or high-value equipment with common or specialized carriers.
• Proficiency with inventory software/data-entry and workplace tech (e.g., Jira, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Smartsheet).
• Forklift certification from relevant authorities and OSHA/NSC certifications within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, document, barcode, and process incoming materials.
• Maintain accurate inventory/location records using digital tracking systems.
• Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
• Load/unload, stage, relocate, and deliver materials on-site and to off-site storage.
• Inspect incoming freight for damage, discrepancies, and accuracy of manifest.
• Prepare high-value equipment for shipment or storage with proper wrapping and securing methods.
• Coordinate tagging and controls for high-value equipment with the ALS-U Property Manager.
• Notify staff on material arrivals and ensure correct delivery location.
