Job summary

Duke Life Flight, part of Duke Health, is seeking a Paramedic II for its on-site Life Flight team in Durham, NC. The role focuses on direct patient care across ALS and BLS transports, with interdisciplinary collaboration and ongoing education.

You will work 3-12 hour shifts, perform pre-hire and ongoing competencies, and participate in performance improvement initiatives while maintaining extensive certifications and vehicle readiness.

Qualifications

• One year ALS Paramedic experience required.
• NC Paramedic certification (or ability to obtain) within 6 months.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• ITLS or PHTLS preferred at hire; must be obtained within first year.
• NC EVOC driver's certification within 6 months.
• Valid NC driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in accordance with Paramedic scope of practice.
• Assist clinical staff in evaluation, treatment and care of patients.
• Monitor patients and document status using patient monitoring system and EMR.
• Maintain accurate medical records and initiate charges for each patient treated.
• Communicate essential information to healthcare team to promote continuum of care.
• Operate medical equipment in hospital and transport environments.
• Ensure safety and maintain infection control; proper PPE usage.
• Act as preceptor and support staff development.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and evidence-based practice.
• Complete vehicle inspections and road tests for ambulances.
• Assist with patient handling, loading/unloading during transport.
• Replenish oxygen and medical supplies during transport.
• Respond quickly to changes in patient/unit conditions.
• Adhere to infection control procedures.
