Job description

Under the general supervision of the Associate Site Director/Nurse Manager, the ALS Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for specific aspects of protocols and policies for research studies within the scope of the nursing license in Massachusetts. Additionally, the ALS Clinical Research Study Nurse assists in the ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic by acting as a primary nurse contact for the patient population of 1-2 physicians.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Collaborates closely with research coordinators and investigators, responsible for:
  • Identifying and recruiting eligible patients
  • Collecting, compiling, and analyzing data
  • Coordinating patient care activities in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Delivering professional nursing care using the nursing process and evaluating patient responses
  • Providing consultation on protocol implementation and contributing to research publications
  • Presents study findings to interested groups
  • Implementing research studies according to protocol
  • Assisting in data form development
  • Performing nursing procedures such as blood draws, IV infusions, and sample handling
  • Collaborating with principal investigators on study progress and decisions
  • Working with physicians, nurses, and research staff to select and enroll patients
  • Obtaining approvals and informed consents; screening and enrolling patients
  • Monitoring patient participation and acting as liaison regarding care activities
  • Managing IRB submissions; may require travel for study visits
  • Assist in ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic:
    • Providing compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles
    • Maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients and families
    • Clarifying the professional nursing role to patients, families, and team members
    • Evaluating nursing care outcomes
    • Coordinating patient, family, and team involvement in care and education
    • Documenting patient information
    • Communicating care plans and pertinent information
    • Utilizing nursing resources effectively
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    BSN, MA RN Licensure in Massachusetts

    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Strong clinical and healthcare knowledge
    • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
    • Knowledge of hospital, state, and federal regulations, including HIPAA and JCAHO standards
    Physical Requirements:
    • Frequent standing and walking
    • Occasional sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, foot use, and vision requirements
