Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Site Director/Nurse Manager, the ALS Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for specific aspects of protocols and policies for research studies within the scope of the nursing license in Massachusetts. Additionally, the ALS Clinical Research Study Nurse assists in the ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic by acting as a primary nurse contact for a patient population of 1-2 physicians.

Qualifications
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborates closely with research coordinators and investigators.
  • Identifies and recruits eligible patients.
  • Collects, compiles, and potentially analyzes data.
  • Coordinates patient care activities in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Delivers professional nursing care using the nursing process and evaluates patient responses.
  • Provides consultation regarding protocol implementation and may contribute to publications.
  • Presents study findings to interested groups.
  • Coordinates and implements research studies per protocol.
  • Develops data forms.
  • Performs nursing procedures such as blood draws, IV infusions, and sample collection/shipping.
  • Collaborates with principal investigators on study progress and patient participation.
  • Works with physicians, nurses, and research staff to select and enroll patients.
  • Obtains approvals and informed consents; screens and enrolls patients.
  • Assesses patient participation considering ethical considerations.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and team regarding care activities.
  • Assists with IRB submissions; may require travel for study visits.

The ALS Clinical Research Nurse also assists in the ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic:

  • Provides competent, compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles.
  • Maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Communicates the nursing role to patients, families, and team members.
  • Evaluates outcomes of nursing care.
  • Coordinates patient, family, and team involvement in care and education.
  • Documents relevant patient information.
  • Communicates care plans effectively.
  • Utilizes nursing resources appropriately.
Qualifications

BSN, MA Licensure as an RN
