Job description

EMPLOYER’S NAME: Alltrista Plastics LLC

POSITION TITLE: Tooling
Engineer

POSITION DUTIES:
Work closely with Sales and Engineering to understand part design requirements and identify the best technological solutions for molding — including mold design, machine specifications, cavitation, and cycle time. Contribute to part design decisions and specify general tool designs, components, and controls for new molds. Approve mold designs prior to the start of mold builds and lead design reviews with selected suppliers for awarded programs. Source and select qualified suppliers capable of building required molds and machinery, maintaining strong working relationships to solicit and organize a high volume of quotes. Provide supplier quote information to the quoting team to support accurate part and project pricing. Apply learnings from quoting and build activities to continuously improve the quoting process and maintain an up-to-date Approved Supplier List. Monitor new mold and machine builds, conduct vendor mold run-offs to verify quality, function, and performance to specification, and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Validation (IQ, OQ, PQ). Support Account Managers and Program Managers in technical subject matter execution. 20% domestic and international travel required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent or any combination of education and/or experience in Engineering Management or Mechanical Engineering
  • Five (5) years of experience in the job offered or in a managerial position in the plastics industry
  • Requires responsibility for determining overall project requirements, conducting first article testing of injection molds and systems, interpreting blueprints, determining system solutions and overseeing technical feasibility for components, supporting technology transfer, and planning and scheduling tool building, managing capital spending and capacity tooling. Requires injection molding experience including establishing process capability studies and validating manufacturing processes, installing and testing processes, coordinating mold trials, providing technical expertise for injection molding systems, performing manufacturing audits, investigating equipment failures and technical complaints, and delivering technical training on manufacturing processes. Requires experience implementing cost reduction initiatives in tooling, die cast, and injection molding areas. Requires experience in cost estimation including preparing estimates and quotations for parts, molds, systems, and supporting activities to reduce manufacturing and operational costs. Experience with tooling and manufacturing engineering is also required.
  • 20% domestic and international travel required.
