Duties for All Substitute Positions
Substitute Teacher Duties

Position Purpose: Deliver District curriculum to students in the absence of the teacher to maintain instructional continuity.

Essential Job Functions
  • Report to assigned school 10 minutes prior to the start of the school day.
  • Assist with dismissal procedures.
  • Take student attendance.
  • Utilize provided lesson plans, deliver instruction, monitor, and assist student learning.
  • Implement provided classroom management plan, including using discipline techniques aligned with written campus discipline procedures and District policy.
  • Monitor students' behavior outside the classroom at designated times, between classes, and at assigned duty stations as directed.
  • Leave teacher a written classroom report including pertinent details regarding completion of lesson plans.
  • Monitor all students and follow any individualized student plans provided by the campus.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, such as working in supplemental assignments under special revenue funds or state compensatory education funds.
  • Report to the office during the designated planning time to receive other duty assignments.
  • Must be available to work at least two (2) days per week (Monday and Friday's preferred).
Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment such as Promethean Board.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasionally up to 35 pounds; may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
  • Environment: Works in an office setting; noise levels in the classroom are usually moderate; frequent talking and listening; may work outside; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
Minimum Required Qualification

Education:

  • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
  • 60 college hours from an accredited college or university preferred. (Transcripts must reflect all coursework and will be kept for your employee file.)
  • To qualify for the higher rate of pay, the transcript must show a conferred Bachelor Degree. All foreign transcripts must be equivocated, course by course, through an approved agency.
Certification/License
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification in the subject and level of assignment.
Experience
  • Ability to substitute in all grade-levels and subjects (e.g. special education and physical education).
Language
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.

Substitute Secretary/Clerk Duties – $105.00 per day

Position Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the department head, to assist with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to contribute to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists with the copying and distribution of documents and other materials (e.g., correspondence, bulletins, reports) for administrative, instructional and clerical staff.
  • Assists in maintaining documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference.
  • Assists in answering telephone calls, and provide information and assistance to callers.
  • Assists in distributing incoming mail appropriately.
  • Assists in maintaining inventories of supplies and materials for the purpose of ensuring items' availability.
  • Assists in supervising and managing students in non-classroom activities such as cafeteria, recess, and busing.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Substitute Teacher Assistant – Special Ed Intensive Assignments – $110 per day (includes SEAS, LINC, TAP, Day Treatment, PPCD, Jo Kelly and Boulevard Heights/Transition Center)

Position Purpose

Provide assistance to the teacher in all phases of the educational process and meet the physical needs of students with disabilities within the context of a special education environment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist teacher in material preparation and instruction of students, by providing one-to-one and/or group instruction; administering informal assessments; preparing worksheets, bulletin boards, tests, and charts.
  • Gather and maintain data on students, e.g., take roll, check assignments, punch cards, and assist with any other record keeping duties as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist teachers in implementing the developmental, behavioral, and/or academic program.
  • Monitor special education students on school campus and in community settings (e.g., accompanies special education students to the office, bus, nurse, class, etc.; supervises special education students in classroom, cafeteria, or playground).
  • Assist students physically, perform functions as needed; move and position students as directed by teacher.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
