Job summary

UMIAQ Environmental seeks a Hazardous Building Materials Project Manager to lead assessment, abatement, and compliance services across Alaska, overseeing asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, mercury, and other regulated materials. Must reside in Alaska.

You will serve as technical expert and team leader, ensuring regulatory compliance, advancing operational excellence, and developing new opportunities within the HBM service line. Travel to remote Alaska locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years in hazardous building materials management or related with at least 3 years in a supervisory or senior project management role.
  • Current certifications or licenses strongly preferred: AHERA, Lead-Based Paint, HAZWOPER and related credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage HBM and AHERA projects including surveys, inspections, risk assessments, abatement oversight, and demolition support.
  • Serve as the primary AHERA-competent person for asbestos inspection, management planning, and project design activities.
  • Develop, review, and approve technical reports, work plans, and regulatory documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee certification compliance and provide technical mentorship to environmental field and project staff.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Support business development efforts by preparing proposals, cost estimates, and scopes of work.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain strict adherence to AHERA, EPA, OSHA, ADEC, and local regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
