Job summary

UMIAQ Design LLC in Alpine, Alaska seeks a Survey Instrument Person to support field data collection for maps, plans, and construction documents. You will work in small teams using GPS, traditional, and leveling equipment year-round in remote field locations.

The role involves rotating two weeks on/off with a tight-knit team, staking out sites, verifying measurements, and assisting the Party Chief to ensure data accuracy in challenging conditions.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering tech, or related field; or three years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather.
  • Travel to remote Alaska locations required (10–25%).

Responsibilities

  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain survey equipment in the field.
  • Use GPS systems to position survey markers and benchmarks.
  • Help establish and mark reference points and stake out construction sites.
  • Verify measurements and data with the Party Chief.
  • Conduct field reconnaissance to identify landmarks and control points.
