Job summary

The Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in Alaska is seeking an Equipment Operator Journey 1/2 at the Central Maintenance Station, MP 127 Steese Highway. The role involves winter and summer maintenance, road and infrastructure upkeep, and emergency response.

CDL is required and travel may be involved. This is a full-time position with competitive base wages of $30.90/hour for Journey 1 and $32.76/hour for Journey 2, OT eligible.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate heavy equipment for maintenance tasks including snow removal and infrastructure repairs.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and assist with shop upkeep.
• Maintain roads, bridges, drainage, signage, guardrails, and landscaping; perform bridge work and summer travel when needed.
• Operate plows, sanders, graders, and related equipment for snow removal and snow haul operations.
• Respond to hazards, flooding, debris, and emergencies; mark and clear obstructions for safety.
• Set up traffic control for work zones with arrow boards, flagging, etc.
• Address material spills from equipment leaks or accidents.
• Attend required trainings (Traffic Control, First Aid/CPR, OSHA) and prepare for WG 53 test.
• Perform other duties including lower-grade tasks and shop maintenance.
