Job summary

UIC Bowhead Transport is seeking a Marine Operations Barge Master to oversee barge operations across ports of call, including cargo loading, securing, and voyage documentation. The role requires directing cargo operations, training crews, and conducting safety meetings with regular Alaska travel from April through October.

Responsibilities include risk mitigation discussions, equipment operation, and ensuring timely cargo handling and reporting.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience operating boats of various sizes (river boats preferred).
• One (1) year of experience operating cargo delivery equipment (e.g., loaders, dozers, excavators, and various-sized forklifts).
• Two (2) years of experience operating equipment on and off barges or other marine equipment.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Forklift Operator Certification (preferred).
• Knowledge of the Kuskokwim River from the mouth to McGrath.

Responsibilities

• Directing all aspects of barge cargo operations at any/all ports of call.
• Production of all required voyage documentation.
• Receiving cargo in preparation for voyage sailings.
• Loading and securing cargo to the vessel.
• Conducting regular safety and risk mitigation meetings.
• Training crews on all cargo operation procedures.
• Safely operate various cargo moving equipment (as needed).
• Extensive and frequent travel throughout Alaska between April & October.
