Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Bowie, MD is seeking a Security Service Technician to independently service and maintain commercial fire alarm and security systems, including intrusion, access control, CCTV, and related low-voltage equipment. You will diagnose, repair, test, and document work, travel to job sites, and support compliance with codes and standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, if driving role.
• Strong working knowledge of intrusion alarms, access control, CCTV, and low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and system drawings.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform service, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and maintenance of commercial Fire Alarm systems and security systems including intrusion alarms, access control, CCTV, and related low-voltage systems.
• Diagnose system issues and complete corrective actions in a timely and professional manner.
• Test and verify proper system functionality and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, system layouts, and technical manuals.
• Travel to job sites as required.

The Security Service Technician is responsible for independently performing service, and maintenance of Commercial Fire Alarms and security systems including intrusion alarms, access control, CCTV, and other low voltage systems. The technician ensures systems operate properly, meets customer expectations, and supports compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Primarily scheduled during standard business hours.

Occasional evening or overnight work required based on project and customer needs.

Must be available to work scheduled after-hours assignments as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Independently perform service, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and maintenance of commercial Fire Alarm systems and security systems including intrusion alarms, access control, CCTV, and related low-voltage systems.
• Diagnose system issues and complete corrective actions in a timely and professional manner.
• Test and verify proper system functionality and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on security and low-voltage systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, system layouts, and technical manuals.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment to complete service work efficiently and safely.
• Complete service documentation, inspection reports, and work orders accurately and on time.
• Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job progress and system status.
• Follow all company safety procedures and customer site requirements

• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Use of hand tools and testing equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Pay Range

$25-$30 per hour Dependent on industry experience
