Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills and proficiency with virtual platforms (Zoom, Google Suite, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, energetic, and student-centered classroom culture.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver clear, standards-based instruction aligned to AVI curriculum and program outcomes.
  • Manage virtual classroom dynamics to create an interactive, student-centered environment.
  • Incorporate technology tools (Zoom, interactive apps, screen sharing) to enhance learning.
  • Maintain a positive and energetic teaching style to keep students engaged and motivated.
  • Coordinate with Fellows to ensure sessions run smoothly (attendance, recordings, technical support).
  • Communicate regularly with the Program Director regarding student progress and classroom needs.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to share best practices and align instruction across sites.
  • Monitor student participation, performance, and growth; provide feedback and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Complete required reports, forms, and student attendance accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in evaluation processes and professional development sessions as directed.

Job description

Position Title: AVI Teacher Reports To: Program Director / Executive Leadership Team Location: Virtual Instruction (with possible on-site events) Employment Type: Contract / Part-Time Compensation: $50 per hour

Position Summary The AVI Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction to students participating in the Alabama Virtual Institute (AVI). The teacher leads lessons, manages virtual classrooms, incorporates technology, and supports student achievement through targeted strategies and real-time feedback. Working closely with Fellows and program staff, the AVI Teacher ensures that all students are engaged, motivated, and meeting academic goals, while aligning instruction to AVI's curriculum and CAMP's mission of educational excellence.

Primary Responsibilities
Instruction and Facilitation
  • Deliver clear, standards-based instruction in the assigned subject(s), ensuring content aligns to AVI's curriculum and program outcomes.
  • Manage virtual classroom dynamics to create an interactive, student-centered environment.

  • Maintain a positive and energetic teaching style to keep students engaged and motivated.

  • Coordinate with Fellows to ensure sessions run smoothly (attendance, recordings, technical support).

Data and Accountability
  • Monitor student participation, performance, and growth; provide feedback and adjust instruction as needed.

Professional Expectations
  • Preparedness and Punctuality: Log in 10-15 minutes before each session to set up, review lessons, and troubleshoot technology.
  • Professional Demeanor: Maintain appropriate on-camera presence; no eating or unrelated activity during sessions.
  • Communication: Proactively communicate any scheduling conflicts, absences, or technical issues to leadership.
  • Content Mastery: Be thoroughly familiar with lesson materials and instructional strategies prior to each session.

A formal evaluation will be conducted during or at the conclusion of the 90-day period to determine continued employment.
