Job summary

ACCEL Schools is seeking a qualified School Counselor for Alabama Virtual Classical Academy at Sylacauga to support social, emotional and academic development. The role partners with staff and families to tailor academic programming and career planning, while delivering proactive guidance and SEL curricula.

The ideal candidate holds a valid State Counselor license, has experience with ASCA models and online K-12 learning, and can navigate confidentiality with strong communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Valid State Counselor license.
• Bachelor’s degree plus one year counseling/advisement experience or equivalent.
• Experience with the ASCA model.
• Experience with K-12 online learning.
• Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• Ability to handle confidential information with sound judgment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to pass federal and state background checks.

Responsibilities

• Deliver proactive guidance curriculum to individuals and groups.
• Provide responsive counseling and programming.
• Review transfer transcripts and inform course placements.
• Maintain and review transcripts and inform credit procedures.
• Create and maintain graduation plans and career plans.
• Deliver Social-Emotional Learning curriculum.
• Create and maintain Student 504 plans.
• Analyze student data to inform interventions.
• Travel within the state to support testing and events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Alabama Virtual Classical Academy at Sylacauga is a tuition-free online public school serving grades K-10. We offer a virtue-centered, classical education following the Trivium method, blending traditional intellectual rigor with modern technology. We are seeking a highly qualified School Counselor who is dedicated to fostering the social, emotional, and academic development of every student! At ACCEL Schools, we leverage a cutting-edge 21st-century support framework, delivering comprehensive counseling services through innovative online platforms and traditional outreach methods to ensure no student navigates their journey alone.

The School Counselor supports overall student success by partnering with staff members and families to inform student specific academic programming, create and maintain graduation and career plans, and provide proactive and preventative services.

About the Opportunity

• Deliver proactive guidance curriculum to individuals and groups
• Respond to individual and group needs with responsive counseling and programming
• Review transfer student transcripts and inform appropriate course placements
• Maintain and review transcripts for active students and inform credit award procedures
• Create and maintain student graduation plans
• Provide career readiness curriculum and facilitate creation of career plans
• Deliver Social-Emotional Learning curriculum
• Create and maintain Student 504 plans
• Analyze student data to provide input on appropriate academic programs and interventions
• Travels to support testing efforts and school events within the state as needed
• Other duties as assigned

About You

• Bilingual strongly preferred
• Valid State Counselor license
• Bachelor’s degree plus one (1) year previous experience in counseling and/or advisement OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience with the ASCA model
• Experience with K-12 online learning
• Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality
• Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations and make evidence-based decisions
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently
• Customer service oriented
• Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
• Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
