About This Position

Over 52 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2024, making it one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports), operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, with an annual economic impact of over $44 billion.

The Aviation Department manages Phoenix Deer Valley Airport and Phoenix Goodyear Airport, ensuring safe routing for air travelers and private aircraft. We have a vacancy for an Airport Operation Technician position. The technician may work at either airport and is responsible for maintaining airport facilities to ensure safe, secure, and efficient operations.

Duties Include

• Performing security checks
• Issuing notices of violations
• Overseeing contracted service providers
• Performing landscape maintenance
• Responding to alerts and emergencies
• Enforcing FAA rules and regulations
• Enforcing city and airport rules and regulations
• Maintaining buildings and airfield facilities
• Providing vehicle and aircraft escorts in the movement area
• Delivering excellent customer service to tenants, stakeholders, team members, and the public

Ideal Candidate

• Familiar with radio communication and airfield etiquette
• Knowledge of airport operations, maintenance, and security
• Experience with small engine equipment used in landscaping
• Ability to operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, tractors, sweepers, and mowers

Salary

Pay Range: $20.51 to $36.84 per hour
Hiring Range: $20.51 to $24.93 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of airport experience or skilled building maintenance work
• Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Must pass criminal background check
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for positions requiring vehicle use

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in report writing, airport operations/security, customer service, aircraft or heavy equipment operation, FAA regulations, or maintenance at airports
