Position: Operations Coordinator
Location: Republic Airport
Reports to: Operations Manager
Basic Functions
Under general supervision, performs various duties at Republic Airport as directed by operational requirements on his or her assigned work shift. Follows established guidelines and procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport facility.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs inspections and maintains records of all aeronautical areas including pavement, marking, lighting, safety areas, wildlife management and fueling practices. Responsible for maintaining airport safety under FAR Part 139 and reporting any discrepancies to the Operations Manager.
- Monitors the operation of the airport and resolves operational difficulties with the assistance of service contract personnel. Identifies and resolves hazards to airport operations including wildlife, obstructions, and maintenance conditions.
- Responsible for ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) on his or her assigned shift. Drives and operates all emergency equipment and responds to all airport alerts, emergencies and incidents.
- Maintains records of aircraft activities during his or her assigned shift. Collects landing fees and assists in providing services.
- Responsible for airport operational duties during snow removal. Performs snow removal procedures and operates equipment on his or her assigned shift. Performs all required snow removal duties involving the Airport Operations Area (AOA), ramps, walkways and access roadways.
- Performs security inspections of airport facilities. Responds to any unauthorized entry of persons or vehicles on the airport property. Monitors cameras, IDs and access gates during his or her assigned shift.
- Coordinates construction and maintenance on or near the AOA to ensure minimum interference with the airport operation.
- Maintains airport records for wildlife hazards, licenses, equipment and training.
- Monitors, to the extent possible, noise abatement practices of aircraft utilizing the airport to ensure compliance with procedures and requirements. Assists in professionally answering all communication lines including the noise complaint line, maintaining records involving citizen complaints, and compiling data on callers.
- Maintains equipment and working environment in clean, neat and orderly condition. Employee uniform or dress standard shall be maintained and properly worn while on duty and while on airport property.
- Position requires shift work.
- Perform other tasks as assigned during work period by the Senior Operations Coordinator or Operations Manager.
- Maintain acceptable attendance and performance at required training functions.
Qualifications, Education, And Experience
(Must satisfy to become qualified, and maintain to remain qualified)
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with three (3) years of airport experience, preferably in the airport operations capacity. A college degree in Aviation Management may be substituted for the experience.
- Must possess a valid N.Y.S. driver’s license. During probationary period must acquire a Commercial Driver’s License suitable for operation of all airport vehicles (Class B license).
- Must acquire New York State Unarmed Security Guard License upon hiring.
- A knowledge of and experience in general aviation, corporate, and commercial operations work.
- Ability to perform the duties of this classification to Company standards, which include, but are not limited to passing, to the satisfaction of, the Company, initial and recurrent Company tests to ensure the maintenance of required level of proficiency.
- Acquires all licenses or certificates required by regulating agencies.
- Probationary period three months (90 days) regarding Airport Operations duties. Additional three months (180 days) from start date for required Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Twelve months (365 days) from start date for ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) duties, training, operation of all equipment and vehicles including the required ARFF certification (annual hot fire exercise).
- Pass Company test pertaining to Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139.
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee may be required to lift, move, and/or handle up to or over 50 pounds.
- The working conditions of the job require the employee to be exposed to adverse weather, work on all assigned shifts, respond to airport emergencies, and may be required to work mandatory overtime.
- The work environment at the airport is such, that while performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud. The airport environment is dynamic and demanding, and can be a high-stress environment requiring good judgment under pressure.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a condition of employment.
