General Description and Standards

Coordinates planning, construction, remodeling, custodial, landscape maintenance, security, and building maintenance activities of various facilities of the department. Provides instructions to and reviews the work of maintenance, custodial, and security personnel and/or contractors to ensure work is completed effectively and in a timely manner. Aids in the planning, development, and installation of new sites, facilities, and buildings; and performs other tasks as assigned. This is an experienced, skilled, or technical level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the position or specialty with limited guidance or review. It is considered a promotional level, attainable by incumbents demonstrating the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. This position may be the only in its specialty within a work group or part of a larger team. Supervision is received under minimal supervision, and the role may include training or guiding lower-level staff.

Salary range: $55,357 - $66,428

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, assign, supervise, and review work of subordinate personnel to ensure quality and timely completion within safety standards.
  • Schedule, plan, and write work orders, inspections, and notices using various communication tools.
  • Communicate effectively with management, peers, staff, vendors, and the public to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Inspect construction projects for compliance with contracts, codes, and schedules.
  • Oversee projects and contractors to ensure contractual and safety standards are met.
  • Respond to emergency calls for repairs, utilizing appropriate tools and resources.
  • Attend meetings, coordinate repairs, and instruct/train staff on procedures and safety.
  • Assist in developing budgets and maintaining equipment inventories.
Decision Making & Leadership

Follow standardized procedures and instructions. Provide guidance and training to lower-level staff, interns, and temporary employees as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Requires knowledge of building construction, maintenance, safety codes, and various disciplines (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.). Skilled in operating computers, reading blueprints, coordinating projects, and estimating costs. Ability to develop maintenance programs, work under pressure, and maintain effective relationships across organizational levels.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience: High School Diploma and 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.

Preferred: Technical courses, associate degree, or 3 years as a Facilities Maintenance Technician.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid State Driver’s License required.
  • Airside and Landside Coordinators must obtain Airport Movement Area Certification within 90 days of hire.
