Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for its Portland, ME office. The internship runs May/June 2027 to August/September 2027 and provides hands‑on experience supporting design and inspection on airport projects across Maine and neighboring states.

The intern will work with engineers, technicians, and construction managers on engineering tasks, drafting, and site observations, gaining exposure to FAA standards and project documentation.

Qualifications

• Two semesters of college‑level civil engineering or construction management coursework completed by hire date.
• Valid driver’s license; able to pass background checks for airport site access.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers, technicians, and surveyors with civil design for airport projects (taxiways, runways, aprons).
• Help with airfield design tasks including grading, drainage, pavement, and geometry layouts.
• Support preparation of drawings and plan sheets using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Perform quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and data collection for airport projects.
• Assist in preparing technical reports, calculations, and project documentation.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction observations.
