Job summary

The Allegheny County Airport Authority operates Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport, seeking an Equipment Operator to operate and maintain heavy equipment across runways, taxiways and grounds. The role involves snow removal, paving, excavation, and regular safety compliance in a 24/7 environment.

Qualified candidates hold a PA CDL (A or B) and two years of heavy equipment experience, with FAA ground procedures knowledge and a strong safety mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience operating heavy mobile road and off-road construction equipment.
• Current, valid Pennsylvania Class A or B CDL.
• Knowledge of FAA ground control and radio procedures.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and injury prevention programs.
• Ability to work in adverse weather for extended hours.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team for snow removal or projects.
• Ability to learn airfield and safe driving procedures for independent movement.
• Knowledge of heavy construction and maintenance equipment operation.
• Honesty and integrity aligned with the Authority's Ethics Policy.
• Behavior reflecting the Authority’s Values.
• Ability to work all shifts in a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities

• Develop or participate in job safety analysis procedures.
• Operate backhoes, front-end loaders and excavators for trades support during excavation and repair work.
• Operate high pressure water sewer cleaning equipment.
• Operate pumps for manhole work.
• Operate forklift for material handling in multiple facilities.
• Operate skid steer and related equipment for landscape projects.
• Hoisting and material handling to support tenants.
• Operate paving equipment for in-house projects.
• Operate crawler loaders and excavators for landside repairs and parking lot work.
• Load and stockpile sand, salt and construction materials.
• Excavate and install catch basins and storm sewers.
• Operate snow removal equipment and clear runways and taxiways.
