Job summary

City of Melbourne, FL is seeking an Equipment Mechanic to perform skilled mechanical work on automotive vehicles and related systems at the airport. The role requires sound judgment, technical knowledge, and independent work with supervision through reports and performance of vehicles.

The incumbent will progressively learn to use diagnostic equipment, meet certification requirements, and support airfield operations across indoor and outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of progressive fleet/auto maintenance experience.
• Must possess valid Florida Driver’s License and maintain while employed.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varied weather conditions.
• Knowledge of automotive, truck and heavy equipment maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

• Drive vehicles and equipment on airport ramps, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and safety areas.
• Coordinate radio directions from ATC via the ground control radio frequency.
• Conduct FAR Part 139 airfield inspections and record discrepancies; issue NOTAMs and work orders.
• Inspect airport facilities and coordinate required repairs and maintenance.
