Job summary

Vertical Mag currently seeks an Aircraft Structures Technician to join our Birmingham, AL facility. The role focuses on inspecting structural components, fabricating repairs, and performing depot-level modifications in a day-shift, onsite setting.

The position offers a steady 5-year base with optional extensions, competitive pay, and a benefits package including holidays, PTO after one year, and potential relocation assistance on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications

• Experience in airframe, aircraft sheet metal, and aircraft maintenance.
• Expertise in structural mechanics, sheet metal repair, and fabrication.
• Proficiency in aircraft modification and structures.
• Experience with heavy depot-level repairs or modifications.
• Skills in skin repairs, skin patches, and skin changes.
• Knowledge of bulkheads, stringers, and doublers.
• Air Force Specialty Code 2A753 / 2A773 preferred but not required.
• Fighter jet experience preferred but not required.
• Experience in depot-level, MRO, aircraft skin repair, and corrosion control.
• Structures Mech Level III requires 12 years of depot-level/MRO repairs or modifications.
• Structures Mech Level II requires 8+ years of depot-level/MRO repairs or modifications.
• Structures Mech Level I requires 5+ years of depot-level/MRO repairs or modifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and assess damage to aircraft structural components and formulate repair or replacement procedures.
• Remove and install close tolerance, high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
• Design structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatments while maintaining original strength, weight, and contour.
• Perform post-repair flight control weight and balance functions and control surface rigging per technical orders.
• Inspect components and repairs for structural serviceability according to specifications.
• Manufacture and use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
• Utilize advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools for forming, cutting, bending, and fastening parts.
• Train in shop drawing and depot-level metal layout techniques, shop mathematics, corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention.
