Job Overview
The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.
Principal Responsibilities
- Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints and manuals.
- Perform daily maintenance, inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
- Provide own hand tools; special tools and test equipment will be supplied by Customs.
- Lead teams on complex aircraft tasks as needed.
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance (US Citizenship required).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) certificate.
- Knowledge of aircraft maintenance, including airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and engines.
- Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
- Familiarity with military and general aviation aircraft logbooks.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Proficiency with aircraft tools and technical publications.
- Compliance with hazardous waste handling procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to meet deadlines, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
- Capable of performing aircraft mechanic duties physically.
- Ability to move freely in aircraft interiors and meet weight specifications.
- Stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Use of ear protection in high noise areas may be required.
