Aircraft Mechanic II - Customs & Border Protection

Job Overview

The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints and manuals.
2. Perform daily maintenance, inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
3. Provide own hand tools; special tools and test equipment will be supplied by Customs.
4. Lead teams on complex aircraft tasks as needed.
5. Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
6. Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.

Minimum Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance (US Citizenship required).
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) certificate.
• Knowledge of aircraft maintenance, including airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and engines.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
• Familiarity with military and general aviation aircraft logbooks.
• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Proficiency with aircraft tools and technical publications.
• Compliance with hazardous waste handling procedures.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to meet deadlines, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

• Capable of performing aircraft mechanic duties physically.
• Ability to move freely in aircraft interiors and meet weight specifications.
• Stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Use of ear protection in high noise areas may be required.
