Job description

Aircraft Mechanic I

The Aircraft Mechanic I reports to the Lead Mechanic and performs work under FARs and a Part 145 Repair Station, supporting customer flight operations, maintenance, repairs, and modifications at the Aviation Operations Center (AOC) at Alliance Airport, Fort Worth, Texas.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following duties. Additional tasks may be assigned or amended as needed by the organization. The listed examples are not exhaustive:

  • Perform moderately difficult work and solve complex problems with technical expertise.
  • Occasionally lead a team through complex projects, maintaining schedules.
  • Work independently or under supervision.
  • Make aircraft logbook entries and release aircraft for return to service when required.
  • Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty.
  • Repair aircraft components and apply knowledge of airframe and powerplant systems to troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Travel up to 50% to various locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee performs tasks as assigned, including those in performance evaluation elements, which are essential to the role.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED required; technical trade school, military experience, or equivalent on-the-job training preferred.
  • Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant certificate required.
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as an A&P mechanic; at least 3 years on specific aircraft types (e.g., Cessna 206/210, King Air, Challenger, Citation, Bell 407/412, MD-500 helicopters).
  • Recent experience within the last 12 months; working knowledge of FARs and troubleshooting procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The following are required:

  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs (preferred: composite repairs).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Own sufficient hand tools for A&P duties.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Justice (DOJ) Security Clearance.
  • Valid US Passport and vaccinations for international travel.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and parts replacement.
  • Basic electrical theory knowledge.
  • Experience with rotor & propeller track and balance using common equipment.
  • Knowledge of aircraft-specific tools and technical publications.
  • Ability to receive technical guidance and occasionally lead teams.
  • May make entries in aircraft logs and records, and approve aircraft for service return.
Physical Demands

Must be able to perform maintenance in areas requiring standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations can be provided.

Work Environment

Primarily inside hangar with good ventilation; may work outside in various weather conditions, exposed to moving parts, fumes, airborne particles, electrical hazards, and other risks. Personal protective equipment is required as needed.

Exposure to hazardous environments such as confined spaces, chemicals, radiation, and vibration may occur. Noise levels are usually moderate.
