Job description

General Description
Aircraft Mechanics I must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.

DUTIES

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers' service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects.
  • Repairs or replaces defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft.
  • Enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Services engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
  • Specializes in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specialize in engine repair.
  • May require specialization in sheet metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.
  • Will require the use of HVLP spray gun and various other corrosion control tooling.
  • Work will be accomplished on and off aircraft depending on specific requirements.
  • Work different shifts potentially.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience on the C-130H/J variant aircraft.
  • May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, working at heights with fall protection devices.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
  • May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
  • Expected to work in high heat or extreme cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • May operate in austere CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Ability to wear a full face or forced air respirator.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Availability/ability to work different shifts if needed.
