Pay: $26/hr - $29.22/hr + $7/hr (Health & Wellness benefit through Union)
Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense contractor specializing in range operations, weapons testing, facilities management, aerial, ground and seaborne target operations and maintenance, logistics, engineering support, systems integration, electronics and communications maintenance, and cybersecurity.
We are currently seeking to hire an Aircraft Mechanic Helper to provide aerial target operations and maintenance support at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons, Pacific Target and Marine Operations Division.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on targets and basic troubleshooting techniques under direct and indirect supervision, assist in target decontamination procedures.
- Assist in organizational level repair of engines or structures.
- Maintenance work on BQM-74, BQM-177, BQM-34, GQM-163 aerial targets and associated support equipment, including teardown of target airframe and assistance with electronics, avionics, launch systems and support equipment.
- Perform testing to ensure functionality in accordance with procedures defined in NAVAIR manuals using specified test equipment.
- Operate and be qualified (technically and medically) in forklift and overhead crane operations.
- Perform and understand basic tool control and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Additional Duties
- Qualified in handling and use of associated ordnance in support of target operations, including small CADS (pyrotechnic devices), RATO/JATO, and flares.
- Work in a technical capacity as a team member on frequent trips to field activities and vendors.
- Other duties as assigned, such as parachute packing and HAZMAT.
Work Conditions
- Work will be performed in enclosed buildings and may involve sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted and 50-100 lbs. when assisted by others.
- Work schedule: 9/80 (Mon – Thurs 9 hours; alternating Friday off with every other Friday being an 8‑hour work day).
- Overtime will occasionally be required.
- Travel will be required on a routine basis; primary work location is NAWCWD Point Mugu, CA.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience performing general maintenance and repair.
- Works well with others as a member of a team.
- Familiarity with naval target maintenance (CNAFI 4790) programs – Desired.
- Possess basic mechanical‑avionics background or engine experience – Desired.
- Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/gov/rental vehicles during working hours and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and must obtain an interim U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to starting and a final Secret clearance within 90 days of hire date, maintaining clearance throughout employment.
- All candidates will be required to pass background screening, including SSN, driver record, and criminal background investigation.
