Job summary

Textron Aviation in Wichita, KS, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern to originate and develop concepts for interior and exterior aircraft design. You will perform 2D sketches and 3D modeling using Alias, collaborate with multiple engineering teams, and present concepts to stakeholders during a 10‑week internship running late May to early August.

Onsite work is required. The role emphasizes hands-on experiences, mentorship, and real project contributions with a structured internship

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering or Transportation Design.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with Photoshop or 3D design software desirable.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. for Textron Aviation.

Responsibilities

• Generate concepts for innovative products and features based on provided criteria.
• Plan and participate in ideation, engineering research, design, development and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineering, design and other interns to progress projects.
• Create conceptual designs for interior and exterior of aircraft and block-point redesigns.
• Support interior concept with floor plan layouts of cockpit, cabin, lavatory and baggage areas.
• Develop exterior concepts showing overall exterior with cockpit and cabin windows.
• Use market research and human factors to evaluate designs.
• Develop 2D hand sketches and 3D surface geometry using Alias.
