Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled technician to install and repair air brake systems on locomotives, read schematics, and perform shop math in a manufacturing environment.

You will follow safety rules, test valves, and prepare records while working in a shop repair setting with a team to meet schedules. Night, holiday, and weekend shifts may be required.

Job description

• Follow all safety rules and procedures
• Repair and test air brake valves for railroad applications according to company specifications
• Install and maintain air brake systems on locomotives
• Read schematics and perform shop math
• Prepare and maintain records and reports
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Work in a shop repair environment and on locomotives
• Assess multiple tasks and develop a timely completion plan

Requirements

• High School diploma (or equivalent)
• Experience in a manufacturing environment in a job related field
• Experience using hand tools and pneumatic hand tools, cutting torch, welders, and pipe threader
• Understanding of air brake schematics, brake valve diagrams, and part lists
• Ability to perform physical requirements of a shop repair environment and work on locomotives
• Ability to follow orders and communicate effectively with fellow workers and management
• Ability to work well with others and learn all aspects of air brake repair and locomotive air brake system installation
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
• Availability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as required
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights
• Must complete additional job-related screening processes following a conditional offer, as permitted or required by law
