Job summary

ARES Corporation is seeking an entry-level Air Surveillance Radar Technician. The role is based at Wallops Island, VA, and involves hands-on maintenance and repair of legacy FAA radar systems, with on-call availability and potential tower work. A two-year technical degree plus military service or related experience can qualify you for this position.

Candidates should be able to interpret electrical diagrams, and hold or obtain a NASA tower climbing certificate. A U.S.

Qualifications

• Experience maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of legacy FAA-certified RADAR systems.
• FAA ASR-8 certification is highly desirable.
• Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, schematics and block diagrams.
• Soldering and component-level repair experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of RADAR systems to ensure readiness.
• Operate and interpret test equipment including oscilloscopes, meters and analyzers.
• Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on 80-foot radar tower equipment.
• Assist with installation and field support as required.

This job posting is for an entry-level position in the ROC Surveillance Radar section. It is open to all Bargaining Unit employees deemed qualified, as determined by the Company, to perform the duties of "ASR-8 Radar Junior Technician." Please note that this position features a fixed salary governed by the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA Union Position).

Position Requirements:

• Combined education and work experience for a total of 5 years (E.g., completion of a two-year technical degree alongside military service or relevant work experience).
• Hands-on experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of legacy FAA-certified RADAR systems.
• Possession of an FAA ASR-8 certification is highly desirable and a significant advantage.
• Comprehensive understanding of RADAR hardware and Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems.
• Proficiency in utilizing a range of test equipment for RADAR system troubleshooting, including oscilloscopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and multimeters.
• Proven ability in electronic circuit board troubleshooting, precision soldering, and component-level repair.
• Ability to interpret and apply electrical diagrams, including functional block diagrams and schematics.
• Adept at performing physical preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure continuous system operational readiness.
• Candidate must hold a NASA tower climbing certificate (or be able to obtain one) and be physically capable of performing antenna maintenance, including climbing stairs on an 80-foot RADAR tower.
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Flexible availability to provide system maintenance support, including on-call or irregular hours as required.
• Familiarity with PC operations and the mathematical skills necessary to perform basic algebra.
• Candidate must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
• Cable crimp and harness training is a plus.
