Job summary

ARES Corporation on Wallops Island, VA is seeking a full-time maintenance technician to inspect, repair, and overhaul heavy equipment. Responsibilities include testing after repairs, diagnosing faults with specialized equipment, and performing scheduled maintenance with proper documentation.

Candidates should have a high school diploma and 1–2 years of related experience; vocational training is a plus. Certifications for NASA equipment and crane operations may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and 1-2 years related experience; vocational certificate desirable.
• Ability to acquire NASA forklift, man-lift and overhead crane certifications.
• Read operating manuals, blueprints and technical drawings to perform maintenance.
• Shift work and travel up to 25% may be required for maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly for compliance.
• Repair/replace damaged or worn parts and inspect machines for faults.
• Diagnose faults using engine diagnostic equipment and calibration devices.
• Disassemble/reassemble heavy equipment with hoists and tools.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including lubrication.
• Adhere to trailer hauling and tie-down procedures and safety policies.
• Inspect parts with micrometers/gauges for wear and damage.
• Schedule and record maintenance for industrial machines.
• Read manuals, blueprints, and drawings to guide work.
• Overhaul/test machines to ensure operating efficiency.

Position Requirements:

The successful candidate shall possess at a minimum the following qualifications:

High School Diploma and 1-2 years related experience. Possessing a related vocational school certificate is desirable.

• Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
• Repair and replace damaged or worn parts. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
• Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
• Observe trailer hauling and tie-down procedures
• Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
• Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
• Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• Must be able to acquire and maintain NASA forklift, Man-lift and Overhead Crane
• Operators and Safety Certificates as well as a valid CDL driver's license.
• Capable of the successful completion of applicable tower climbing physicals.
• Use and application of all test equipment related to validation, troubleshooting, and configuration of various data collection systems is required.

Compliance with safety and quality awareness policies is mandatory. Shift work and travel up to 25% or more may be required. Assignments may change or vary.
