Job summary

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is seeking an Engineer Trainee in Hartford to join the Air Quality Modeling and Emissions Inventory Unit. The role provides a structured training program and exposure to emissions inventories, modeling, and regulatory compliance.

This position offers a pathway to promotion to Air Pollution Control Engineer 1, with duties covering data collection, modeling, reporting, and coordination with DEEP and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Training in introductory professional engineering work, development of technical and professional engineering skills.
  • Development of technical and professional engineering skills for advancement to technical engineering work.
  • Experience intended to qualify for advancement to Air Pollution Control Engineer 1.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive emissions inventory reports to support state and federal air pollution statutes and regulations.
  • Employ tools, calculations and models to estimate air emissions from all sectors of the inventory.
  • Evaluate air emissions from all types of air pollution sources and verify control equipment efficiencies.
  • Review annual emissions statements for accuracy, compliance and fee billing.
  • Collect and provide data to support other air bureau groups, DEEP, EPA and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed emissions reports for local, regional, and national environmental groups.
  • Attend training classes and self-study to enhance knowledge of air pollution sources and emissions.
  • Perform related duties as required.
