Job summary

The Environmental Engineer will join the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality in Phoenix to support the Air Quality Team by drafting air quality permits and conditions that comply with state and federal regulations. The role includes reviewing detailed technical reports received from the regulated community and ensuring enforceable permit conditions.

This position may offer remote work within Arizona (one day per week in the office) under the State’s Remote Work Program, with flexibility

Qualifications

Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations pertaining to air quality.
Understanding of environmental engineering principles and practices.
Ability to learn agency policies at state and federal levels.
Proficient in Excel-based emission calculations.
Experience interpreting environmental rules and statutes for permit compliance.

Responsibilities

Review and evaluate environmental permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans and cost estimates.
Develop permits, action plans and recommendations based on regulatory review.
Participate in site visits, data collection and investigations of environmental topics.
Review technical documents and applications for compliance.
Perform environmental calculations using provided methodologies.
Provide technical assistance to regulated communities, staff and the public.
Assist in preparing environmental guidance documents.
