Job summary

GEODIS in New York is seeking an Air Freight Gateway Operations Manager to lead gateway operations, ensuring operational excellence, high productivity, cost efficiency, and satisfaction of internal customers.

The role interfaces across gateway functions, other gateways, and business units, requiring strong leadership, data-driven decision making, and proven experience in airfreight and global logistics.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience; 3+ years in a management role.
  • Broad knowledge of global customs regulations and policies with significant Air freight and customs brokerage experience.
  • Understanding of warehouse and CFS operations; extensive airfreight experience.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and related Office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Export operation of the Gateway; oversee inbound and outbound freight flow.
  • Set up capacity planning including allotments optimization, BSA, and consolidation sharing.
  • Escalate incidents with stakeholders and provide timely updates.
  • Assist with large ad hoc opportunities and optimize cost of sale.
  • Develop and maintain local carrier relationships; monitor KPI performance.
  • Oversee ITP calculation to maintain coverage within tolerance; interpret archived rate figures.
  • Approve invoices within signing power regulations; ensure correct job costing and MAWB file assignments.

Job description

The Air Freight Gateway Operations Manager is responsible for leading the gateway operations. This position provides & ensures operational excellence, high productivity as well as high-cost efficiency and internal customer satisfaction. This position also ensures smooth interfaces between the different functions in the Gateway as well as other Gateways and Business Units.

Your role on the team
  • Manage the Export operation of the Gateway; overview of inbound and outbound freight flow
  • Sets up the capacity planning (allotments optimization, BSA, consolidation share)
  • Escalates and exchanges incident issues with stakeholders whenever necessary and appropriate
  • Assist with large ad hoc opportunities - decide on spot rates for business opportunities in order to optimize cost of sale
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains local relationship with carriers
  • Measures and achieve internal and external KPI’s
  • Oversees ITP calculation in assigned area to keep the resulting under/over coverage within the defined maximum tolerance level, interpreting the net archived rate figures
  • Check and approving of invoices in line of established signing power regulations
  • Liaise with Operations in the Business Units to ensure correct job costing, correct ECA/ICA assignment on MAWB (ITP) files
What you need: (requirements)
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and training
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience
  • A broad knowledge of global customs regulations and policies, with significant experience in global Air freight and customs brokerage industries
  • Understanding of warehouse and CFS operations. Extensive airfreight experience.
  • PC literate to include Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
