Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) seeks a journeyman-level HVAC technician to service and maintain campus heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems. You will operate the energy management controls and perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and safety across campus facilities.

The role requires a minimum of one year of experience and EPA Universal Certification (or within 6 months).

Qualifications

  • High school, GED or vocational school graduation and one year of journeyman-level experience in repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair the HVAC/R equipment on campus.
  • Train on energy management control system monitoring HVAC on campus.
  • Perform preventative maintenance: sensors, bearings, belts, filters, fluids, and cleanliness.
  • Install/replace equipment for remodels and projects.
  • Process work orders and EPA paperwork as required.
  • Ensure proper freon disposal and adherence to disposal codes.
  • Order parts as needed for repairs.
  • Perform after hours service calls for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, door repair, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $19.61 to $20.19. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

This role possesses skills at the journeyman level and responsible for the complete servicing of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment on UT Arlington’s campus.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain and repair the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment on campus.
  • Train on and utilize the energy management control system that monitors and control theHVACsystems on campus.
  • Preventative maintenance to include: checking/calibrating sensors, greasing bearing, changing belts, changing filters, changing fluids and keeping equipment clean.
  • Install/replace equipment as required in remodels and projects.
  • Process work orders andEPApaperwork as required.
  • Ensure proper freon disposal and adherence to state disposal codes.
  • Recommend the ordering of parts as needed for repairs.
  • Perform after hours service calls to include:HVAC, plumbing, electrical, door repair, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school, GED or vocational school graduation and one (1) year of journeyman-level experience in repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • EPAUniversal Refrigerant Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to use all hand/power tools, equipment and chemicals common with the air conditioning and heating trade.
  • Familiarity with different types of HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to operate forklift and man-lifts.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work; lift/carry 40 pounds of equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of hand signals used in construction trade is helpful.
  • Strong communication skills for positive interaction with campus staff, faculty, and students.
  • Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and to others.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
Working Conditions
  • May work in all weather conditions.
  • May work around chemicals.
  • Position may be designated security-sensitive based on job duties or location.
