Job summary

Applied Intuition in Fort Walton Beach, FL is seeking a Perception Engineer to build the perception layer of an autonomy stack for uncrewed air vehicles. You will design real-time C++ algorithms, develop tooling, and move research prototypes into production software.

The role requires strong knowledge of estimation and ML, hands-on experience with sensors, and collaboration across sensor, tracking, and autonomy teams.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Electrical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field, plus 3+ years building perception or estimation software for autonomous systems.
• Strong modern C++ (17/20) for real-time, performance-critical code on Linux. Proficient with Eigen and profiling.
• Solid grounding in state estimation: Kalman filter variants (EKF/UKF), IMM, covariance handling.
• Experience with multi-target tracking and sensor fusion: data association, track management, fusing heterogeneous sensors.
• Experience with machine learning for prediction: sequence models, training pipelines, evaluating models on held-out data.
• Python for data pipelines, analysis and visualization of logged and simulated runs.
• Experience validating algorithms in simulation and with recorded data: designing experiments and reading results.
• 2+ years of industry experience in related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, and adapt cutting-edge AI/ML algorithms on the perception autonomy stack to gather information from sensors.
• Create interfacing software to autonomously control sensors (EO, IR, acoustics, radar, RF).
• Collaborate across sensor, tracking, and autonomy teams for seamless deployment in DoD testing and events.
• Deploy containerized solutions to embedded Linux devices with CI/testing pipelines.
• Interact with DoD customers to understand use cases and deliver a superior experience.
