Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking an Aide/Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) for the Roane County area. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and may require current authorization for the ECCAT program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual or small group instruction under teacher supervision.
  • Assist with bus duty and escorting students to and from the bus.
  • Support teachers in preparing instructional materials and activities.
  • Assist with library duties and clerical tasks such as filing and typing.
  • Care for students including feeding, toileting, and assisting with special needs as needed.
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment and uphold confidentiality.

Position Type

Aide/ Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT)

High school diploma or equivalent or be continually enrolled in a GED program working towards successful completion

Must meet all required qualifications and competency pursuant to W. Va. Code

Currently hold or be eligible to hold Temporary or Permanent Authorization as Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher. Preference may be given to candidates currently holding such an authorization, with further preference given to Permanent Authorization holders over Temporary Authorization holders.

Criminal background check may be required as appropriate

Complete all required county and WVDE trainings

Will include all lifting, health, personal care and transportation responsibilities

The ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities as contained in the Job Description, with or without reasonable accommodations

Additional Minimum Requirements:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide individual or small group instruction under the supervision of teacher
  • Provide students with individualized attention
  • Set up and operate equipment for instruction
  • Help teacher prepare materials for instruction
  • Assist teacher with bus duty in escorting students to and from the bus
  • Provide library assistance to students
  • Assist with preparing snacks for students as needed
  • Remain aware and alert of medication administered to students
  • Assist in lifting, feeding, toileting, and changing clothes of special needs students
  • Assist and supervise special needs students in a regular classroom setting
  • Modify materials and instructional activities for special needs students
  • Secure students in car seats, seat belts, harnesses, etc., while in transport
  • Secure wheelchairs safely for transport
  • Assist students as instructed in physical therapy activities
  • Practice good safety habits and have knowledge of basic first aid
  • Help maintain an up-to-date inventory
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing and typing for classroom purposes
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain familiarity with personnel policies and procedures
  • Be proficient in the use of basic computer operations
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with other staff members.
