Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. in Chantilly, VA is seeking an AI Software Engineer (SME) to design, develop, and sustain cloud-enabled applications in Lean Agile environments.

You will work on secure, scalable mission-critical systems with frontend and backend development, modern search technologies, LLMs, and RAG pipelines. Responsibilities include participating in scrums, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering scalable search/retrieval capabilities.

Qualifications

• Experience in Lean Agile development environments.
• Ability to translate customer and system requirements into design specs.
• Experience designing interfaces with data flows and integration points.
• Experience building or integrating LLM-based solutions and RAG pipelines.
• Experience with data pipelines for hybrid search (BM25 + vector search) in RAG workflows.
• Hands-on Elasticsearch experience with indexing, queries, and clustering.
• SPA frontend development with React; backend RESTful APIs with Node/Express.
• Experience troubleshooting web protocols and server technologies (Apache Tomcat, SSL/TLS).
• Experience with Jest/Karma testing platforms.
• Experience with Git/Jenkins/Nexus for DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Participate in Lean Agile scrums, sprint planning, and grooming.
• Coordinate with stakeholders for problem resolution and task clarification.
• Collaborate with an integrated team of staff and contractors.
• Work with security, operations, engineering, testing teams for system information and support.
• Understand and work within AWS cloud environments.
• Design, develop, and modify software systems.
• Unit test software and perform code reviews.
• Design and implement scalable search and retrieval systems using Elasticsearch.
• Develop and integrate LLM-powered capabilities and RAG pipelines.
• Document vendor software roadmaps and updates.
