Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology seeks an experienced AI Software Engineer (SME) in Chantilly, VA to design, develop, and sustain cloud-enabled applications in Lean Agile environments. You will work on secure, scalable mission-critical customer systems with frontend and backend development, including LLM/RAG-powered retrieval capabilities.

The role requires 10+ years of related experience, TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance, and strong Elasticsearch, React, Node.js, and DevOps skills.

Qualifications

• Lean Agile development experience in a team.
• Experience translating customer requirements into design specifications.
• Knowledge of data pipelines and hybrid search.
• Experience building or integrating LLM-based solutions (RAG, semantic search).
• Experience designing data pipelines for hybrid search (BM25 + vector search).
• Elasticsearch expertise: indexing, query development, tuning, scaling.
• Frontend SPA development with React, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JS.
• RESTful APIs with Node.js/Express.js.
• DevOps with Git, Jenkins, and Nexus.

Responsibilities

• Participate in Lean Agile scrums, sprint planning, and grooming sessions.
• Coordinate with stakeholders for problem resolution and scheduling.
• Collaborate with an integrated team of staff and contractors.
• Work with security, operations, engineering, testing and other teams for system info and support.
• Understand and work within approved cloud environments (e.g., AWS).
• Design, develop, and modify software systems.
