The University of Kansas is seeking an AI Program Intern to help design and launch an AI-powered student pitch competition and to support the AI Integration Studio MBA course. You’ll work with a supervisor to shape the program, the tools, and the evaluation process, while building tutorials and course material for students.

Position Overview

Position OverviewThe AI Program Intern joins the Entrepreneurship Program team to help design and launch a new kind of student pitch competition - one built around an AI platform that guides students as they develop their ideas, build out a product, and craft a final pitch. Working directly with the supervisor, they'll help define how the competition works, what tools power it, and how students are evaluated - not only on the pitch itself, but on the product they create and the process they follow to get there. They will also support the AI Integration Studio, an MBA course on applied AI, helping shape the curriculum, run activities in class, and build the tutorials and demo materials students rely on. This is a build-it-together role: much of what the program becomes is still to be shaped, and shaping it is the point. If you're curious about the intersection of entrepreneurship, education, and applied AI - and you want hands-on experience designing a program and a course from a blank page - this is a great launchpad.

Job Description

Program & Competition Design (approximately 40%)

• Work directly with the supervisor to design the format, rules, and judging criteria for a new AI-integrated pitch competition.
• Help define how students are evaluated on their final pitch, the product they build, and the process they follow to get there.
• Translate a rough concept into a concrete, runnable program.

AI Tooling & Platform Development (approximately 30%)

• Research, evaluate, and test AI tools and platforms that can guide students through ideation, development, and pitch creation.
• Help prototype and build out the platform experience alongside the supervisor.
• Document what works, capture feedback, and iterate on the tooling.

AI Integration Studio (MBA Course) Support (approximately 20%)

• Help the supervisor design and refine curriculum for the AI Integration Studio MBA course, including session plans, assignments, and in-class exercises.
• Support course administration, such as preparing materials ahead of class, setting up tools and accounts, and helping students during in-class work sessions.
• Build supporting materials the course needs, including demo videos, written tutorials, and step-by-step guides for the AI tools students use.

Professional Development (approximately 10%)

• Complete structured mid-term and final self-assessments reflecting on growth and career direction.
• Meet regularly with the supervisor for mentorship and career exploration conversations.

Required Qualifications

1. Currently enrolled KU student in good academic standing.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Strong interest in entrepreneurship and in applied/generative AI tools.
2. Comfort with ambiguity and iterative, build-as-you-go problem-solving.
3. Strong organizational and communication skills. Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to build or create something.
4. Interest in program design, product design, or education.
5. Able to manage multiple projects independently.
6. Proficient in Outlook and Excel.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
