Job summary

American Family Insurance invites students to a Summer 2027 Product Data Engineering Internship in Madison, WI. You will work with experienced engineers on our data and AI platform, building a real AI agent and integrating it into a live workflow.

A mentor will guide you throughout the internship and you will present your work at the midpoint and final week. The program runs 10 to 14 weeks, with possible housing-cost support depending on proximity to a location.

Qualifications

• Must be a student at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship.
• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD.
• Major/program must align with internship role.
• Demonstrable hands-on project or internship experience developing AI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of our business, culture, and structure to support your work.
• Turn real business problems into a working AI solution by breaking it into tasks.
• Build and deploy an AI agent on our platform with tooling, retries, timeouts, and model handling.
• Contribute to shared platform capabilities like evaluation, observability, or internal tooling.
• Follow code quality, testing, security standards and write tests.
• Present your work at midpoint and end of the internship.
