Job summary

American Family Insurance offers a Summer 2027 Intern – Product Data Engineering. This 10–14 week program starts mid to late May and pairs you with a mentor to work on our service‑oriented data and AI platform, building an AI agent and integrating it into real workflows.

You’ll gain exposure across the business with coaching and networking, and a potential one‑time housing bonus based on proximity to an AmFam office. Location is Madison, WI; visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Must be a student at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship.
• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD.
• Major/program must align with internship role.
• Hands-on project or internship experience developing AI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of our business, culture and structure to support work.
• Contribute ideas and strategies in response to changing situations.
• Work with your mentor to turn a business problem into a working AI solution by breaking it into tasks.
• Build and deploy an AI agent on our platform with tools, context, retries and monitoring.
• Contribute to a shared platform capability (evaluation, observability, tooling) with engineers.
• Follow team standards for code quality, testing, code review and security; write tests.
• Help measure AI solution performance and share findings with the team.
• Take part in stand-ups, planning and code reviews; keep your mentor updated.
• Add logging, metrics, and tracing to show agent activity and cost.
• Document what you built and present to the team at midpoint and end.
