Job summary

ServiceNow in Santa Clara is seeking a Staff Engineer in HRSD to set the technical direction for model-driven capability across the HR domain, shaping the agentic and conversational experiences that interpret employee and manager intent.

You will own the architecture, evaluation infrastructure, and policies that let multiple teams ship these experiences safely, with emphasis on probabilistic behavior and governance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering with technical direction beyond the immediate team.
• Direct hands-on experience authoring agentic instructions and prompts for autonomous workflows.
• Production experience with LLM APIs, agent orchestration, tool calling, and structured output enforcement.
• Entitlement-aware data handling: per-user access enforcement in retrieval and tool layers.
• Evaluation experience: dataset curation, judge calibration, CI gating, drift detection.
• Strong system design, APIs, data modeling, and testing across frontend, backend, and relational data.
• Effective use of AI coding assistants and agents.
• On-call and incident-command experience on customer-facing systems.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, software engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Define AI architecture for the HRSD domain and how agents are decomposed and composed.
• Decide domain policy for HR actions and human-in-the-loop points where needed.
• Own evaluation infrastructure, golden datasets, and drift detection for safe behavior.
• Ensure production quality and safety with observability and guardrails for content.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and design to scale AI solutions and translate business needs into robust designs.
