Job summary

Obvious is hiring an Infrastructure Engineer to build AI-native infrastructure at scale in a fast-moving startup. You will own CI/CD, model serving, and telemetry, making deployments boring in the best way.

Ideal candidates have deep distributed systems experience (Rust/Go), Terraform, and hands-on exposure to observability tools like OpenTelemetry and Datadog. You’ll work on internal tooling to accelerate engineers and agents. This remote US role offers high impact in a small, talent-dense team.

Qualifications

• Infrastructure as product mindset across teams and platforms.
• Experience applying infra to AI/LLM workloads: model serving, inference infra, agent tooling, eval pipelines, or LLM-ops guardrails.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems (Rust/Go), storage engines, control planes, or Kubernetes internals.
• Strong Terraform skills with infrastructure-as-code practice.
• Hands-on experience with observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Datadog, dashboards, tracing, metrics).
• On-call experience and systems that reduce on-call burden.
• Product-minded approach to internal tooling to boost developer/agent productivity.
• Willingness to move fast in a rapidly changing startup environment.
• Humble, collaborative attitude to help the team succeed.

Responsibilities

• Make deployments boring (in a good way)
• Own CI/CD pipelines: optimize build times, improve caching, reduce flakiness
• Evolve our Kubernetes (EKS) deployment strategy for reliability and speed
• Build and harden the infrastructure behind model serving, inference, and agent tooling
• Extend our telemetry with better instrumentation, smarter sampling, and actionable dashboards
• Build alerting that catches actual problems and ignores noise
• Make the feedback loop from code to production as fast as possible
• Improve preview environments, local dev tooling, and testing infrastructure
• Eliminate toil through thoughtful automation, not another dashboard
• Be the engineer who makes other engineers—and agents—faster
