Job summary

Pearson is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for Data Foundations in the Richmond, VA area. You will lead the modernization of a trusted data platform, owning planning, execution, and cross-team collaboration to ensure reliability, security, and readiness for analytics and AI-enabled capabilities.

You will coach engineers, manage multi-year migrations, and partner with security, compliance, and product teams to maintain continuity while evolving the platform.

Qualifications

• 4+ years managing engineers who ship to production.
• Experience delivering a model-backed or agentic capability to real users and monitoring after release.
• Experience managing across a legacy and a target platform while shipping.
• Distributed team leadership across time zones with written discipline.
• Regulated or privacy-sensitive environments; K-12/FERPA exposure a plus.
• Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead overall engineering delivery for Data Foundations, including roadmap execution and migration sequencing.
• Set expectations for data contracts, quality gates, lineage, observability, access controls, and readiness.
• Partner with Product, Data Engineering, Security, DevOps, SRE, and vendor teams to align priorities and protect continuity.
• Own planning, prioritization, and delivery commitments for your team and operating rhythm.
• Coach capability growth and run performance and development conversations on a rhythm.
