Job summary

AMD is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our intern/co-op program in Silicon Valley. You will develop, optimize, and benchmark AI software across CPU/GPU/accelerator platforms, using Python and C/C++, with exposure to PyTorch, TensorFlow, and other runtimes.

Work alongside researchers, engineers, and platform teams to advance next‑generation AI software capabilities. This full‑time term is ideal for students seeking real‑world impact through hands‑on projects and collaborations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a U.S.-based PhD program in CS, CE, AI, or related field.
• Programming experience in Python and/or C/C++.
• Experience with AI frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, ONNX Runtime, or similar.
• Familiarity with Git, Docker, or Conda and build tools.
• Research publications or open-source contributions preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, benchmark, and optimize AI software for training, fine-tuning, and inference across CPU, GPU, and accelerators.
• Profile workloads, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance improvements across compute and memory layers.
• Design and optimize GPU/CPU kernels using CUDA/OpenCL/HIP and related models.
• Contribute to AI frameworks, runtimes, and deployment technologies such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and ONNX Runtime.
• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to advance next‑gen AI software capabilities.
