Job summary

AMD in the San Jose/Santa Clara area seeks highly motivated AI Model Optimization & Software Engineer Interns/Co-ops to join our teams.

You will develop, benchmark, and optimize AI software for training, fine-tuning, and inference across CPU, GPU, and accelerator platforms, profile workloads, and contribute to AI frameworks and runtimes.

Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and platform teams to advance next-generation AI software capabilities during a hands-on internship/co-op term.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a U.S.-based PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Programming experience in Python and/or C/C++.
• Experience with one or more AI frameworks/runtimes (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, ONNX Runtime, vLLM, or SGLang).

Responsibilities

• Develop, benchmark, and optimize AI software for training, fine-tuning, and inference across CPU, GPU, and accelerators.
• Profile AI workloads and implement performance improvements across compute, memory, and runtime layers.
• Design and optimize GPU/CPU kernels using HIP, CUDA, OpenCL, or Triton.
