Job summary

DIRECTV seeks a Summer Intern to join the Product Development/AI&ML team in Clarksburg, MD, working on real-world problems to elevate the customer experience. You will develop AI/ML tools, analyze video content, and build pipelines across metadata, captions, transcripts, and search, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes Python proficiency, ML model evaluation, and end-to-end lifecycle support, with hands-on experience in PyTorch/TF and OpenAI API.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a four-year undergraduate or advanced degree in AI, CS, SE, IT, or Data Science.
• Proficiency in Python and its ML ecosystem (NumPy and pandas), with ability to write reproducible training scripts.
• Assist in selecting ML approaches (supervised/unsupervised/deep learning/RL).
• Support end-to-end model development lifecycle: data collection, preprocessing, feature extraction and selection, training, validation.
• Build and benchmark baseline models in Python (linear regression, decision trees, SVM) for classification/regression.
• Familiarity with Linux and/or Android; Claude Code and OpenAI API.
• Apply unsupervised techniques (clustering, PCA, association rule mining) on unlabeled data.
• Address overfitting/underfitting; bias-variance trade-off during tuning.
• Evaluate models using metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, MSE) and define evaluation criteria.
• Experiment with ensemble methods (bagging, boosting, RF) to improve accuracy.
• Prototype deep learning architectures (CNNs, RNNs, transformers) using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experiment with generative AI setups (transformers, GANs) for synthetic data.
• Cross-functional collaboration; strong presentation skills.
